Budget vs ActualFeatures

Committed spend

Track purchase orders and contracts that are promised but not yet spent, and see how they change the picture.

Actual spend alone flatters a budget. A signed contract or an approved purchase order is money you no longer have, even if the invoice has not arrived. The optional Committed column captures that.

How committed amounts are used

  • The stacked progress bar shows Actual as a solid segment and Committed as a hatched segment after it.
  • Status, Remaining, and Used all include committed amounts, so a row can be Over budget before a single committed dollar is invoiced.
  • Forecast at completion adds committed amounts on top of the projected actual spend.

Keeping the columns honest

Committed and Actual should not overlap. When an invoice is paid, move the amount from the Committed column to the Actual column, or the app counts it twice. Boards that already use a Status column for purchase orders can keep doing so; the app only needs the amounts.

If no Committed column is selected, the hatched segment and the committed part of the tile are simply absent.
